How Do Swimming Pool Heat Pumps Work?

Swimming pools are a great place to relax after a long day of work. But in the winters? Not a chance if no heat pumps are keeping the water warm. Let us look at how these heat pumps make the water in the swimming pool feel like a hot spring.

Heat pumps are prominent in everyday appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, etc. For swimming pools, they work in the same manner, that is, transfer heat using electrical energy and a compression system.

Swimming pool heat pumps take the heat present in the surrounding air and make the water warm in your pool. A fan accumulates the warm air and circulates it through an evaporator air coil post which is a liquid refrigerant used to absorb the heat. This gas is then transformed into a gas and is pumped into a compressor to increase the heat, and it then passes through a heat exchanger condenser. This heat exchanger condenser ensures that the maximum heat transfer can happen.

The pump circulates the water of the swimming pool and flows through a filter and water heater. At this stage, the liquid refrigerant gas also flows through the heat exchanger along with the pool water. Due to this, the heat from the gas transfers to the water. The pool water flows back into the pool, only now, 4-5 degrees warmer.

If you are wondering about what happens to refrigerant gas, here is the answer. The hot gas reverts into the liquid stage as it flows through the condenser coil after the heat exchange. The liquid then goes back to the evaporator, and the process continues as a cycle.

The temperature of the water depends on the outside air. Ideally, these swimming pool heat pumps work efficiently when the surrounding temperature is more than 7 degrees Celsius or 45 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in a colder region, heat pumps will use more energy to create warmer water.

The heat exchanger condenser plays a crucial role in heat exchange and making the pool water warmer. Thermea manufactures heat pumps that use Titanium heat exchangers. This ensures that the heat exchanger can happen at its maximum capacity and is long-lasting. If you are looking for a swimming pool heat pump that is durable, efficient in terms of saving energy, and is cost-effective, Thermea is your place to go.
